大きい (ōkii) vs 大きな (ōkina) — what’s the difference?

Both mean big. 大きい (ōkii) works before or after nouns: 大きい犬 (ōkii inu), 犬は大きい (inu wa ōkii). 大きな (ōkina) is used only before nouns: 大きな犬 (ōkina inu). Meaning is almost the same; 大きい (ōkii) is more general.
